The book embodies the Limnological Study of a Pond at Utkamit Vidyalaya, Samastipur. This pond is one of the oldest wetland ponds in Samastipur, Bihar.
Chapter I deals with the introduction part while Materials and Methods have dealt with in chapter II. The Physico-chemical analysis of pond water in chapter III and Chapter IV deals with the study of Phytoplankton and Zooplankton in the pond. Phytoplankton and zooplankton community structures have been studied with respect to density, species diversity, species richness, and species evenness. Chapter V details the study of the fish fauna of the Pond. It reveals a total of 12 species from different families of fish and they were identified properly. The annual productivity of fish was also studied. The total fish catch was found at 800.6 Kg and productivity per acre was 290.2.
Chapter VI discusses in detail the soil of the pond. The soil of the pond bottom was studied with reference to Soil Texture, available Nitrogen, available Phosphorus, and Organic Carbon. Chapter VII is devoted to the productivity of the pond. The primary productivity of the pond has been ascertained during different months of the year. A coliform study was done with respect to Standard Plate Count (SPC) and Most Probable Number (MPN) in Chapter VIII.
